On the evening of December 8, 2020, Dr. Zhichao Lu’s post-doctorate opening report defense meeting was held in 603, Building 10, SUSTech Innovation Park. Professor Yao Xin, Dean of the Computer Department of SUSTech, serves as the chair of the defense committee. The members of the defense committee include: Professor Kalyanmoy Deb of Michigan State University in the United States, Professor Jin Yaochu of the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, and Professor Hisao Ishibuchi of Southern University of Science and Technology. Dr. Zhichao Lu first gave a report titled “Evolutionary Neural Network Architecture Search-Solutions for Universities and Automated Machine Learning”. After that, experts from the defense committee asked questions and gave valuable suggestions.

Dr. Zhichao Lu received his Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Michigan State University in the United States in 2020; he is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology. Dr. Zhichao Lu’s research field is evolutionary machine learning (specifically including evolutionary neural network architecture search, automated machine learning, machine learning-assisted evolutionary algorithms, etc.). He has published 15 papers in the past 5 years (including 3 machine vision top conference articles, IEEE 1 long article in Trans journal); apply research results to important engineering and scientific research fields such as deep learning model optimization and supply chain management. Dr. Zhichao Lu won the Best Paper Award at the 2019 GECCO International Conference (Evolutionary Machine Learning Branch).
