Dr. He Cheng’s post-doctoral defense was held on June 15, 2020 at 603, Building 10, Southern University of Science and Technology. After reports, questions, and discussions, the review committee unanimously agreed that Dr. He Cheng passed the defense.
The judges participating in the defense included: Professor Kay Chen Tan from the City University of Hong Kong, Professor Pan Linqiang from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Chen Huanhuan from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Professor Huang Han from South China University of Technology.
Dr. He Cheng graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and joined the EMI Group in September 2018. The co-supervisor is Mr. Cheng Ran, who is mainly engaged in research on large-scale complex optimization and neural network architecture search. In the past two years, he has published more than ten academic papers in top journals and conferences such as IEEE TEVC and IEEE TCYB, and has been approved by the National Natural Science Youth Fund.
Dr. He Cheng is currently planning to be hired as a research assistant professor (associate researcher) and will continue to work in the EMI Group.

Dr. He Cheng is currently a research assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology; he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (2018-2020). Dr. He Cheng’s research field is computational intelligence (specifically including evolutionary multi-objective optimization, model-assisted optimization, large-scale optimization, etc.). He has published more than 20 papers in the past 5 years (including 13 long articles in JCR Q1 journals, including IEEE TEVC) (7 papers with IEEE TCYB), 4 invention patents were approved, and one National Natural Science Foundation Youth Fund; the research results are applied to important engineering and scientific research fields such as deep learning model optimization and power grid fault detection.
Dr. Cheng He served as the publishing chair of the 2017 BIC-TA International Conference, the co-chair of the 2019 IEEE CEC data-driven multi-objective online optimization competition, and the co-chair of the Model-Based Evolutionary Algorithms branch of the 2019 and 2020 IEEE SSCI conferences; won the 2019 BIC-TA International Conference Best Paper Award, 2020 Southern University of Science and Technology Outstanding Postdoctoral Award.
